The Kellermann Foundation is a US-based 501(c)(3) Christian organization dedicated to supporting the displaced Batwa pygmies in Uganda.
Missions Agency / Non-Profit
The Kellermann Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable foundation whose mission is to provide resources for health, education, spiritual outreach, and economic empowerment for the benefit of the Batwa pygmies and adjacent communities in southwest Uganda, East Africa.
The indigenous Batwa pygmies were hunter-gatherers in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for millenia. In 1991, the forest was designated a World Heritage Site to protect about 350 endangered mountain gorillas who shared the forest. The Batwa were evicted from the forest, and with no land, no compensation, nor skills to survive outside of the forest, were left destitute and in abject poverty.
To fulfill our mission, the Kellermann Foundation provides three main programs in Uganda:
1. The Batwa Development Program (BDP) providing community development in the form of education, income generation, land acquisition, home building, agricultural and nutritional training, spiritual outreach, and healthcare.
2. Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) providing comprehensive healthcare to the entire region.
3. Uganda Nursing School Bwindi (UNSB) providing top-level nursing and midwifery education.
