About the organization

Missions Agency / Non-Profit

Established in 2003 as a platform for training national physicians in family medicine in northeast Asia, LIGHT aims to transform lives and communities throughout the region. Through training physicians, therapists, social workers, and other allied health workers, we envision multiplying impact in marginalized populations. Team members training and serving with LIGHT form the backbone of community outreach to vulnerable children and adults with disabilities and those living in nursing homes and rural areas. Experienced faculty guide trainees in practicing evidence based care and addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. Our social work team helps link resources with needs and provides follow up with local faith-based partners. LIGHT's local partner, the Loving Laughter Children's Day Center, addresses the needs of children living in the community with disabilities. A multidisciplinary team of occupational and physical therapists, physicians, counselors and special education staff focus on the individualized needs of these children. Local team members grow in their skills through classroom and hands-on learning. Social work staff and trained volunteers connect families with supportive networks, with the ultimate goal of increasing hope, connectedness and empowerment in local communities.
