Palliative Care Where There Is None
From big cities to the sparsely populated Sahara, people can be found with life-limiting illnesses and the need for palliative care. Access to palliative care is often limited especially in developing countries. Why is it important to implement palliative care? What are some common barriers to access to palliative care? What are ways to apply palliative care in low-resource settings? These questions will be explored using the example of a palliative care program in West Africa. Ways to reduce barriers, increase awareness, and implement palliative care in any setting, specifically developing countries will be discussed. Participants will be challenged to look at their own view of palliative care and how they can implement palliative care in their current and future settings.
